Zamanbap Museum
Zamanbap Museum - a shared space in the artist’s studio-house for co-creation and reflection

About us
Zamanbap Art collective is formed around artist Chyngyz Aidarov after he suffered a stroke in 2022. Based at his home (rented thanks to crowd-funding support), it runs a home-based museum, stages performances, creates experimental video works, hosts discussions and workshops. All of this is done in a spirit of counter-institutional, wild and raw action — with almost no resources. We explore what is contemporary art (with efforts to create more of it in the Kyrgyz language given the dominance of Russian), performance, and collectivity, particularly the boundaries between care, mutual support, and co-creation.
about Chyngyz Aidarov
Chyngyz Aidarov — artist who works mainly with performance, painting, and graphics, creating critical portraits of the socio-political situation in the post-Soviet world and thus exploring the theme of boundaries, both private and socio-political. Member of the 705 art group, Jönele Emes and Zamanbap Art. Exhibitions include: Spirit Labour (Garage, 2021), Beuys On / Off: Felt, Fat, and Fictions (Goethe-Institut Tokyo, 2021), Double horizon, (Le Fresnoy – Studio national, 2022).

In 2022, Chyngyz Aidarov suffered a severe ischemic stroke that left him unable to read, write, or speak, and caused partial paralysis. He also lives with a chronic genetic condition, antiphospholipid syndrome, requires regular medication, and later developed epilepsy. In 2024, he lost vision in his left eye. Thanks to the support of the artistic community (and beyond) from different countries, he overcome this difficult period and continue his rehabilitation.

Chyngyz's archives
The big part of the collective's work involves interacting with Chyngyz's archives: diaries, photographs, videos, drawings. Perspectives from different contexts help to understand Chyngyz's experience more deeply and broadly: since he can neither write nor speak now, collective effort is crucial in research, systematisation, and interpretation of archival materials. This happens within the artistic community in Kyrgyzstan and through wider interactions in the Central Asian region and globally.
